Since some of you haven’t seen my ribbon leis, I took a
couple of pictures. Besides, it was a way to try out my new camera on something
easily repeatable if I messed up. {Smile}
Here are the leis I’ve finished more-or-less recently.
Two are blue and gold, because my Dad and I needed new ones in our high school
colors; our old ones went to visiting aunts who also went to Hilo High School:
Here is the lei I’m working on now:

Those are really beautiful. What a great idea, making them in your school colors. Are they hard to make? They look really complicated.
ReplyDeleteSchool colors are particularly nice when you have a reunion. Dad's class has a conveniently close reunion this year, so we'll definitely wear ours then. {Smile} School colors are also good when someone graduates. {Smile}
ReplyDeleteThey aren't hard to make. It takes three folds, and a tuck with a lot of pulling to get the whole ribbon thru. Just repeat it over and over, for about five yards of ribbon worth. (I start with two ten-yard ribbons folded in half.) The spiral comes from the braiding pattern. I can make a "checkerboard" arrangement by flipping two ribbons at the beginning, but there's still a lazy spiral in the pattern. I could make it more complicated if I wanted to have it zigzag or other changes, but that would require counting and concentrating on what I'm doing. If I stick to the basic, I can "work on autopilot" while I think, watch TV, or whatever. {Smile}

I like the idea of a checkerboard ribbon lei. The nice lazy thinking project is why most of my crochetting is granny-squares. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks. {Smile} The lei I'm currently working on is a checkerboard pattern. I'll post pictures when it's a little further along. I just hope the lei turns out right without more surgery, since it's the one that Valentine chewed. {Smile}
